Yellow Springs, OH – October 8, 2024 – This October, as Yellow Springs gears up for its annual Street Fair, the community will not only celebrate commerce but also recognize the vital lives being lived among us. In a town renowned for its passionate advocacy for justice and equality, the downtown business corridor will serve as a platform to raise awareness about domestic violence and support survivors during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 

"We aim to raise awareness and show support for survivors," said Heather Culbreath of Violence Free Futures, a local organization dedicated to ending family, domestic, and sexual violence in Greene County. With the logistical support of Village Manager Johnnie Burns and a Proclamation by Mayor Pam of Yellow Springs, this initiative has gained significant traction. 

Throughout October, colorful ribbons symbolizing awareness will be displayed throughout the downtown business district, creating a visible reminder of the importance of community solidarity in the fight against domestic violence. The Yellow Springs Street Fair, one of the largest events of the fall, will provide a perfect backdrop for this important message. 

"Using our downtown corridor as a staging area for awareness and support aligns perfectly with the mission of the Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce," stated Phillip O'Rourke, Executive Director of the YS Chamber. "While visitors and community members shop and dine, it is also our responsibility to leverage our space and influence to make a positive difference."
